Thunder Cove, Prince Edward Island

I think this would have worked better if the seagull was more clearly defined against the background. But I like it anyway!

And the seagull would probably have worked better if it had been a person... larger presence to enhance the moody feel of the setting (peaceful... lonely... tranquil). The combination of the golden hues of the sand and water and the darkened shoreline work well together (with a grey background color). When I opened the image to comment I was only looking at the bottom 3/4 of the picture and I didn't see the golden strip along the top edge and the image still worked for me.

By scrolling up a little, I feel your picture works better for me without the bright line across the top.
Some wonderful redflections across the sand!

Thanks for the comments. I wondered about the bright line at the top of the frame and I've tried it both ways. The reflection on the sand is what caught my eye and that's what I wanted to capture.

I have to agree with John, the light at the top of the image takes attention from the wonderful hues of the sand and water. Great image!

What a luxury place for the evening stroll of the little gentleman...
:)
And where's his lady?

Pietro, I really like my Canon Powershot but I didn't think the lens was sharp enough to show the difference between a male and female seagull! But you're right, it is a beautiful place for an evening stroll - in August. I have some pictures taken along that shore in winter and it's not quite as nice. Maybe I'll post some soon.

Leave the skyline in! I like it!

And those pesky birds never do what you want them to. If that one was being unco-operative, it's gender is obvious...

I forgot to say that it is a lovely shot.

Jim, I think I agree with you. The bright band certainly does distract from the beach but, if it's cropped out, the remaining sky is a patch of boring grey.

I have to vote with the crop, though I'm sure I wouldn't have thought to do it myself. That reflected light in the sand is absolutely beautiful.

I also vote for a crop. Generally a lovely photo.

Yeah, go for a crop, the beach is the focus.

Lovely reflected light! Nice 'zigzaging' curve of the light/shadow line too.
