Ballet Recital

In a church basement, with no natural light and my SB600 main
flash is stuttering. I had a backup flash SB20 on me, it's from
the 80's, not the best light.

I added some filters from ON1 plugins for depth.

One obligatory black and White

Each is excellent in its own way. But Lizzie's eyes are the star of each one. Nice work in capturing that, whatever the light source.

The b&w image is truly striking... the contrast between the dark outfits and the quality of the eyes of the young girls brings a dream like quality to that picture. I do like the perspective that you brought to each picture which brings the viewer into the world of the dancers.

They are all good Steve. I like the b&w the best but would like to see more of the white rail that the girls are leaning on. ;-)

A nice group of young girls in training for the ballet and they look very serious.

The last one is my favorite, I used the radial select tool in ACR to
separate her from the shadows.

The last is great, not so much for your technical acumen, but for the capture where the little angel stands with perfect symmetry of the body and a pensive face.

Very nice series, Steve. I think my favorite is the hi-key one in
the comments. Your addition of that spot of light in the last is a
nice touch.

Lizzie appears very confident in each photo. She's extremely
photogenic. You'll have an excellent subject as she grows -- in age
and technique.

Jacky I have been photographing Lizzie literally from the day she was
born along with her brother and sister. They pretty much ignore me when I
point my camera at them and I prefer it that way. This was Lizzie's 5th
recital. She still loves it. She recently saw the 'Nutcracker Suite' and
exclaimed to her mom, 'I want to be a ballerina just like that girl'
