Tamron 150-600mm G2 lens test

After much thought, I decided to sell my Canon 200-400 1.4 ext lens due to lack of use.
It is /was an excellent lens but my use of it had become very minimal. When I bought it 3 yrs ago it fulfilled my needs, but then Canon released the 100-400 mk2 lens which being a far superior lens to its predecessor, became virtually my main lens.
For the bits of wildlife I do a 600 mmm is still a must so after testing both the Sigma and Tamron versions of the 150-600mm, I went with the Tamron. Mainly for its quicker acquisition in focus and final image quality which seemed sharper and a better clarity over the Sigma offering. Its other points of being smaller and lighter were a bonus, as was the 5 yr warranty. It also enables me to use a UV and Polarizing filter without a huge expense. It seems well thought out including the built in kirk plate holder on the standard collar mounting plate. Not had that much use yet but from what I have taken I have been very pleased with and the only downside is the min f stop being 6.3 at 600 compared to canons F5.6 and when using a extended manual focus only.

Very clear, detailed and sharp with the focus of the bulldog caught on the piece of food the individual is holding in their fingers. What were the settings for this particular shot and what was distant to the subject matter?

I have the first version of the Tamron. Doesn't get much use locally unless I head north.
Always been happy with the results. I thought about a CP filter until I checked the price
for a 95mm. What brand did you get?

Jan: Shot 1/1000 f6.3 iso 400 about 30 ft away image only had slight crop from orig.

Jeff: Was lucky and picked up a Kenko 2nd hand. Always find buying filters best when getting lens as usually get for around 1/2 price, such a huge mark up on them. The Kenko retails for £185 over here, but plenty of much cheaper options on Amazon, which at the price they are would be worth a try, plenty under £20.

Sandi: Thanks, always good to have a new toy to play with!

Thanks for the CP info. It would be great if Tamron had their own line to go with the lens at
time of purchase.

I'm pretty sure the nikon mount is auto focus all the way out.
Do you do manual focus just because it's quicker than auto focus on
the tripod? I hope to shoot the eclipse with this lens.

Manual focus only available with a 1.4 ext fitted, otherwise all auto focus :@}}
