Gay Abandon

Shooting dancers are not the easiest but I really enjoyed capturing the abandoned
joy of these two.

I like the sense of exhiliration that comes through from the two dancers with the slight blur creating a sense of movement rather than just being caught suspended in the air. The contrast between the two dancers and the lightness of the surrounding works to bring more definition to the dancers and their movement as they dance.

Exuberant and Splendiferous! Love how you managed to put one face in the dark while lighting the other one. The effect is to make each stand out. Your clients must adore you!

Great capture (not crazy about those outfits though).

Excellent! Wonderful movement. Great background. For me, the
position of the dancers in the frame is spot-on.

Sorry going to be a little harsher than the above comments.

My first thoughts were both this and the other dance pose were slightly under-exposed, this one by 1/3 to 2/3 and the other by 1/3 of a stop.
I take it the environment did not allow for additional lighting to be used and think that if it had of been, the results would of been much more dramatic adding much more than the dominant soft overhead light caught.

I am viewing on a uncalibrated laptop, so conceed it may be a screen issue but the colours look so flat and the dark areas, like the hair under the dancers arm appears void of detail, as well as the front body of the other dancer. The hair under the arm is a large black lump which for me really detracts.

Also the lack of flash/ to slow a shutter speed, has left blurring in the feet which for me do not add anything to the image. Would prefer crisp or blurr that was intentional.

This is what I would be thinking if these shots were mine, how could I improve them, appreciate the environment was tough, and have never had the chance to photograph dance as such, so could be completely wrong :@}}}}

...or perhaps...

(...in any case, that's one hairy underarm!)

Both are well done dance images

Hi Paul
Thank you for your comments. However, I did not want the dancers hanging in the air, but
wanted them grounded to show how high they were. This is not a wonderfully lit image as I took
it between takes when they were practicing and only with a modelling light and no flash. Nor did
I want a pin sharp image for my purpose. I have a group of images on 'abandoned' and wanted
to add an image from this shoot to the set. Her hair flipping back under her arm gives even more
of a feeling of gay abandon, which is what I wanted.

In any case, great timing on this, Di. That hair under the arm trick is
a good one and perhaps serves as a clue to the movement being recorded.
