I like the clarity of detailing as the Green Blue Heron preens but what really holds my attention is the eye and the gaze from that eye along the bill to the GBH's feathers. A real "wow" shot, for me.

Thank you all. My wife joined me for a walk in Angrignon Park. I
pointed out a Heron hunting in the lake. He was about 30 feet
from us staring at the shallow water when he lifted up in the air
and landed 5 feet in front of me 4 feet from my wife. I froze and
held my breath. I could see the subtle colors on his head and
wings, colors you don't see from yards away. I had a good look at
his head and beak, hard to describe the feeling. I raised my
camera and got off one shot from an oblique angle under my arm,
seconds later he flew off. That's the 2nd close encounter I had
with a Heron in 2 weeks.
