Journey to Churchill, Assiniboine Park Zoo

This was a sequence I had been trying to get ever since the polar bears entered the scene at the Journey to Churchill exhibit.

The anticipation followed by 3 further shots has this polar bear dove into the water of the pool to join its companion.

Usually this sequence happens so quickly that one misses it or one only sees the end of the sequence when they are in the larger pool and one is standing below the diving bear.

Good anticipation and result, enhanced by the leap on its companion really showing their playful side

Thank you Les for viewing and commenting. Appreciated. Before this sequence started the bear in the water went to a den where the other bear was lying and almost seemed to ask the other bear to come down to the pool which it eventually did and jumped in. I wonder if the polar bears in the wild develop the relationships one can see with bears in this exhibit.

Great sequence Jan. Getting the timing takes a lot of viewing and
examination. Studying their body language and knowing when they're
going to act. Like waiting for a bird to take off.

This image was taken the same day as the previous images but of a lone polar bear in their large pool. The reflective nature of the glass in the tunnel is diminished in b&w.
