Dream the dream of the colors of the Prairies... the yellow of the canola under a canvas of a blue sky. Sort of a Little House on the Prairies feel to the composition with the solitary house set against the sky.

Quite enjoyable but very beat up with the compression.

Those are paint chips

Comments by Ernest Cadegan on Fri, 04/21/17 18:42

I know that. But the compression has really crunched the details.

Farmers must be the only people who can sleep on cocaine. ;)

As I first viewed this representation, I was reminded of that
masterpiece of cinematography, Terrence Mallick's 1978 film, "The Days
of Heaven"

Thanks everyone. I am still trying to understand Ernest's comment
inn relationship to what I was trying to achieve. The image is
more about the color aspect in relationship to the comp. I was not
really interested in any major details in the image RE: Country
road, fields and the wall and the stairway in the wall. Because I
create without sharpening - sharpening is always an issue when I
have to present an image or print an image. In this case,
sharpening was an issue of me for the Web.. because I did want all
those items to stand out but not a lot. Maybe I have over
sharpened and thus not better illustrated the color comp and thus
not better given the viewer a window to the image's true intent ?
One never knows the viewer sees and feels. That is why
Photocritique was always a create help when it was first created.

My comment was not a criticism, just an observation. I'm sure the
details in the uncompressed version are just fine. But here with the
compression applied first to generate the jpg and then re-compressed
by the PC algorithm the rendered details, of say the flaking paint for
example, are pretty poor.

I think I get the concept of the piece. That's why I said I found it
enjoyable before my brain went to the details. If you are telling me that
the original details are as I see here I could never get by that. Only my
opinion of course.

You make a good point, G.B. .. What each viewer "gets" (sees and
feels)
from an image is unique to the viewer. Most often there is some
commonality......Viewers are "impressed " by the colors, shapes,
expressions, emotional tone...( beauty, sadness, humor, etc...) etc.
Sometimes there is indifference ( maybe often ) , puzzlement, awe (
rarely). It takes only an instant to react emotionally to an image
...It takes time and analysis to react intellectualy....That's the
hard part. (For me, at least) my immediate reaction to "When Farmers
Dream " was beautiful color, deep relaxing , positive, rural
(America?), time gone by or out of the mainstream...The staircase
threw me ....a puzzle to interpret or try to figure out , I was glad
you left it for us to interpret , even if we can't.... :-)
Interesting discussion.

Regarding paint chips in Farmers Dream, I look at the image and my
first impression is color shape and mood. Another good one Greg, it
deserves it's place on a wall.

Thanks again you guys. Ernest - your opinion counts thats why I
was trying to delve into what you are seeing and feeling. And
...there is always a compression issue, I am used to that. As my
original images are never small and have to be downsized quite a
bit. But normally they do hold well enough and if anything the
details are always lost quite a bit. However based on most of the
comments here, I seem to have issued an image that has portrayed
my original intent. That doe not mean the image meets each
individuals taste or like. We only hope for that. Thanks all !!

I think the image is beautiful and impressive, Greg.
As the unofficially, self proclaimed opponent of Ernest, I have to say he is totally
unneccesary pixel peeping your image. Just ignore it.

Your images are brilliant and very inspiring. Keep up the good work!

Thanks Els - but I don't think Ernest is at all trying to degrade
this image. He is only trying to be helpful as he always has been
with me. We all have different opinions, likes and dislikes. We
all need to express those to others. It is helpful to both
parties. These interchanges help an artist to reevaluate his own
ideas and direction. The knowledge all adds up (one hopes).
On a side note to add a touch of humour - The one image of the
wall with the staircase imprint etc - I shot with Ernest in
Southern Manitoba a few years back. It was a great meeting and
day.

Thanks Greg. I appreciate those thoughts. You know I am great fan of you work.

As to Els....Sheesh!!

All right, all right Greg and Ernest! Cool your jets. You both are talented people and I am
glad you enjoy each others' helpful critiques.

Thanks for bringing in a much needed touch of humour, Greg. I hope Ernest picks up on
that. His comments always seem to lack any sense of humor.

Life is too short and all that......

"Life is too short and all that....."

Based on your latest shots at me, I don't think you are drinking from that
cup. Seems more like the poison cup to me. Try some that Kool-Aid you
just prescribed. You do remember Kool-aid don't you?

Comments by G.B. SHETTLER on Thu, 05/04/17 09:34

Hey!!! - You two are both nice people and you both know you are. So
cut the noise out. And cut the noise out on my photo space - Please !
Thanks and have a great day. OH, and... Kool-Aid has way to much
sugar in it for me.

Els is more than welcome to bring it to me on one of my threads. For my
part I don't comment on her work or what she directs at other folks here. I
only deal with the negative crap she continues to throw my way. Last from
me.
