Young Winter

Merry HO HO !! Everyone.
Not sure what I will work on next (I am open to suggestions). I scanned this old photo of me and some of my brothers (youngest wasn't born yet), thru my $50 scanner. I am the one in the middle. It was taken around Christmas time 19??. I remember it being taken we had been playing in the snow all day and I had lost my righthand mitt, so we had to call it a day.

Merry Christmas to you too, Greg. Your photo really brings back a lot of memories. I was born in Michigan and lived there until I was 13, so my winter memories are full of days of playing in the snow. We used to build igloos using our picnic table as a sub-structure and of course snow ball fights were the every day norm. Looks like the little guy on the left has been pummelled with a few snow balls. Oh, I even remember finding Santa's sleigh tracks in the snow in our backyard. My Dad went to his grave denying that he had anything to do with that.

Merry Christmas Greg, this brings back so many happy memories of my brother and myself playing outside in the snow, buiding snow man and snow forts, thanks for sharing.

When I was a young boy there were winters full of snow like this when I lived up on the north end of Vancouver Island (there is a known picture of me sleeping as a baby in a crib set out in the snow) but when I moved to Vancouver those days of snow at Christmas became mostly a memory (this year might bring a snowy Christmas to Vancouver). Thanks for sharing memories from your younger days. And a Merry Christmas to yourself Greg and all the best in the New Year.

I love old family photos, especially when there's a story a long with it. Perhaps your next project should be scanning your life through photos. It's something we should all do eventually.

Merry Christmas to you.

Lovely family memories - you are looking a little "superior" on this shot Greg! almost as if you were thinking "I'll be a better photographer than you one day"
No snow here in my part of the U.K yet!

Merry Christmas, Greg !

If you are looking for a project, might I suggest that you enlist your whole family and ensure
that all relevant information is archivally affixed to every family photo, ("I had lost my
righthand mitt, so we had to call it a day" is a great example ;-) and scan them all into a
shared family album.

Thanks for sharing this. I like how the dog is acting like a giant arrow pointing at your head.

Great photograph. I can look at old photographs forever.
I keep going back to the Commons at Flickr.

Such a great idea.
Andy is right, we all should scan our photographic history.

Great shot, Greg. You looked less-than-pleased with the idea of having your picture taken!

This photo was handy, so I snapped a macro shot of it. A hi from my approximately seven year old self to yourself of similar age, Greg. Hope you don't mind me adding to your snow-day nostalgia.

Oh, there was a mitten/glove story in my picture, too. My sister (she's on the end at the right, and I'm next to her. The other two are cousins.) says she had a hole in her glove, so when Dad said to wave for the picture, she held her hand so that the hole wouldn't show.

Great Idea adding this photo to my submission. LOve it Linda !! thanks so much. I love old times ugly winter clothing photos. They were ugly and we certainly new how wear the heck out of them. Great Stuff !!

Greg, the lost mitt probably was still attached to that snowball you chucked at your little brother! And I suspect that the weeener dog got high centered in the snow! Great nostalgic photos. Brings back memories from my childhood. Have a nice Christmas!

JOhn, we actually got the Weener dog (Heidi) the day before Christmas morning. One Christmas, many many years ago. This was an amazing family pet and friend. We never had another pet after Heidi passed away from old age. If only our family pets could have the length of life that we do. Heidi was like a parent to us in so many ways, as we grew up.
